"Mitts-night" Train to Georgia

For our final "Midnight" themed New Year's Eve game, I'm bringing back a popular one that we played at our family Christmas party.  In this version, I'm calling it:

"Mitts-night Train to Georgia"

This is the game where the present is wrapped multiple times and you have to unwrap it using oven mitts.  Because of my song title, I've decided that the prize will be a Salted Nut Roll and Peanut M&M's!

For the game specifics, here is a link to the original post:

So...in a nutshell, here are the three games that I'll be bribing my kids to play on New Year's Eve:

  1. Mitts-night Train to Georgia (dice/present passing)

Just for fun, I bought $1 lottery scratch-offs.  I put them in individual envelopes with a sticker that says,

"Wishing you peace and prosperity in the coming year!"

(And I wish that for you, too!)

I truly was going to stop right there, but then I thought about our cat, Rider, or should I say...

Midnight Rider!

Happy 2011!

Midnight Caller (New Year's Eve Bingo)

Continuing with my theme of naming our New Year's Eve party games after songs that have the word "Midnight" in them...here is a free bingo printable.

"Midnight Caller"

Click here to generate your free cards:  New Year's Eve Bingo

This brings up a custom word list...

  • Click submit
On the next screen, I left everything at the default settings, except I put the word, Free, in the center square.  This gave me ten different bingo cards (two per sheet) with randomly generated words that could go under any column.  (However, you can customize the cards at this point if you want to.)

Important:  Before you go on, select the entire word list and copy it.  Open your word processing program and paste it in, then...
  • Click submit

  • Click the link to generate your free set of bingo cards and print them out (I used card stock).
Note:  If you need more cards, go back and change "Card Size" to "four bingo cards per page".  This will give you 20 different cards.

Finally, go back to your word processing document.  Increase the font size and space the words farther apart.  Print this page to cut out your "call words".

Use "Smarties" candy or M&M's for the playing pieces.  Buy a couple of small prizes and have fun playing Midnight Caller on New Year's Eve!

(Remember this website for other free bingo games, too.
There are all kinds of options under "Bingo Templates"!)

Midnight at the "O-Aces" Game

We host a family New Year's Eve party every year.  There are teens/tweens involved and we like them to play a couple of games with us.  As long as there are prizes, they don't complain too loudly...so stock up on the after-Christmas candy!

This year, in honor of New Year's Eve and for my own enjoyment, I've named our games after songs that have the word "Midnight" in them.  :-)

"Midnight at the O-Aces" Game
(This game doesn't have anything to do with aces, I just liked the name!)
  • Buy a piece of tagboard and divide it into four equal quadrants.  (For straight lines, trace along a yardstick or a large T-square.)

  • Number each of the squares, either freehand or trace stencils if you have them.

  • You need two decks of playing cards with different colored backs.

  • Divide your group into two teams.  Give each player the same number of cards (we used 10 cards per person, but it will depend on how large your teams are).

  • Have players take turns tossing their cards at the board from approximately five to eight feet away.  (The weight of the cards is a factor here.  Ours were lightweight, so we had to be closer to five feet for them to even get near the board.)

  • The goal is for your team to score the most points(It doesn't matter what value is on each card or if they land face up or face down.)

  • At the end of the game, turn over all of the cards that landed on the board so their backs show.  If any part of the card touches the game board, they get the points (1, 2, 3 or 4 points).  If it is on the line, move the card to whichever section has most of the card on it.

  • Add up the point values for the red cards and the blue cards to determine the winner!

no one will get lost in the shuffle!

I Was Framed! (Christmas Edition)

I found a very nice, free printable if you need a last
minute gift or Christmas artwork for your own home.

This printable is courtesy of Yellow Bliss Road blog.

This was completely free for me, because I had an unused picture frame in my stash.  I printed it out on shiny photo paper in a 5x7 size.  (It is actually sized to be printed as an 8x10.)

Remember to take a second look at all of your Christmas cards, too!  Many of them are frame-worthy.

Thank you for reading my blog this year...

Merry Christmas!

Merry "Christmitts" Game

Get into the holiday spirit with the Merry "Chistmitts" game!  This is a fun party game for your upcoming Christmas get-togethers!

Merry Christmitts Game

You will need:
  • two oven mitts
  • a plate or pie tin
  • one die to roll
  • an unbreakable gift (wrapped and wrapped and wrapped)*

*Double wrap your gift (I used a Life Savers candy book), but don't go crazy with the tape.  Put it in a box and wrap it again.  Put it in a bigger box and wrap it again.  Do this four or five times (until you run out of boxes or patience).  ๐Ÿ˜„

******************************************************************************

1)  With everyone sitting in a circle, have the youngest player pick a number between one and six (that will be the number that people are trying to roll).

2)  Pass the plate and the die and have everyone roll until they hit the number.  The first person to roll the chosen number puts on the oven mitts and starts opening the present.

3)  As soon as someone else rolls the chosen number, they get the present and the mitts and take over unwrapping the present.

4)  This continues until someone completely unwraps the actual present.  That person is the winner!

Merry Christmitts Game

Note:  This game can be used at any time of year...
I'm also planning to use it on New Year's Eve,

If there are dog lovers on your list,
it's easy to make small gifts for their pets, too!

  • Use Printmaster or your word processing program to create a tag for a snack sized baggie.  Keep your work area to approximately 5.5 x 6.5 inches.  (Note:  Measure your snack bag to see exactly how wide it is and adjust accordingly.)
  • Put your image and text on the bottom half of your work area (because you will be folding the tag in half).
  • Print the topper, cut to size and staple onto the snack bag.

Merry Christmints Gift Idea!

Here is an inexpensive, but cute gift idea/stocking stuffer:

Merry Christmints!

Click here to print the free label (for personal use only):

(This printable is from one of my fave new websites:

  • Print the labels on white cardstock and use a paper trimmer to cut them out (you get two per sheet).
  • Fill a snack size Ziploc-type bag with mints.  (I bought a bag of soft mints for $2.50 and was able to make eight gifts.)
  • The labels were not sized perfectly for my snack bags, so I don't know if baggie sizes vary slightly by manufacturer(?).  If that happens, just line up one edge and staple it, then turn in the other corner until it fits (and staple again).
  • Write your message on the backside:

Thanks for all your encourage-MINT with my blog!
You have my commit-MINT to give you an assort-MINT of different ideas for your invest-MINT of time!
(I MINT to stop right there...
but I kept going for my own enjoy-MINT!)

"IRISH" You A Merry Christmas

Updated October 2020:  If you like gifting with an "Irish" theme, I've created a couple of fun tags for you.  I will be using these for one of my "Ten Days of Gifting"!

GIFT IDEAS:

I work with a couple of people with Irish dancer kids...sometimes they perform for us in the hallway.  They are so cute!  If you have Irish dancers, I've linked to a couple of fun things from Etsy below.

Tag #1:

IRISH you a Merry Christmas Gift Tag

No one in my household is an Irish dancer and everyone is over 21, so I tied tag #1 onto little bottles of Irish Whiskey.

Tag #2:

Use either tag and attach to mini bottles of Baileys with a loop of tape on the back.  Try putting some Irish Cream in your coffee!

Quick joke:

Do you know why the Irish are so rich?

It's because their capital is always...

Peanut Butter Reindeer Sandwich

'Deer' Blog-readers:

Have you 'herd' of this easy, kid-friendly sandwich?  It doesn't cost a lot of 'bucks', so you won't run out of 'doe' this Christmas!  I know it seems like I have all the 'antlers', but you really don't need to 'fawn' over me!  (Well, you can if you want to...)

I know, I know...the ears are big.  You could leave that part off, or cut them in half.  (We weren't allowed to waste anything and now it is ingrained in me, right, Mom?)

The eyes could be raisins, chocolate chips or M&M's.  I used a red M&M for the nose, but you could also use a red hot or a Twizzler Nibs.

Did Rudolph go to regular school?

No...

he was ELF-taught!

(Reindeer jokes just SLEIGH me!)

A Recipe That's Not a "Turtle" Disaster!

Have you made
Rolo turtles?
(They are easy and delicious!)

You need:
  • Small square pretzels
  • A bag of Rolo's
  • Pecan halves

Line a cookie sheet with tinfoil and preheat the oven to 220 degrees F.  Place the pretzels on the cookie sheet and top each one with an unwrapped Rolo.  Bake for about 3 minutes.

While they are baking, slightly toast the pecans in the microwave.  Spread them on a plate and microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring them in between until they're toasted.

Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and press a pecan half onto the melty chocolate.

These make a nice gift...wrap some up and include a note:

What do you get when you cross a turtle with facebook?

A slowpoke!
