2021 FOOTBALL SQUARES GAME

This game is a tradition at every Super Bowl party that we host!  (Because the NFL restricts the use of its "Super Bowl" trademark, we are supposed to call it the "Big Game" now.)  In this post, I will share a free printable football squares game board and link to a couple of other fun games that we will be using at our small party this year.

How-to Play:

There are 100 squares on the board.  Divide 100 by your number of guests/players.

Example:
  • 100/4 players = everyone signs/initials 25 squares.
  • 100/5 players = everyone signs/initials 20 squares.
  • 100/6 players = everyone signs/initials 16 squares (with four extra squares).
  • 100/7 players = everyone signs/initials 14 squares (with two extra squares).
  • 100/8 players = everyone signs/initials 12 squares (with four extra squares).
  • 100/9 players = everyone signs/initials 11 squares (with one extra square).
  • 100/10 players = everyone signs/initials 10 squares.

If it doesn't come out exactly even, just pick a couple of people to claim an extra square or two (i.e., oldest, youngest, pregnant, etc.).

Remember:  Have people sign the squares BEFORE you add the numbers!

From a deck of cards, remove one joker (for 0) plus one each of Ace through 9.  You will have 10 cards to shuffle in a mini deck.  After you shuffle well, flip the cards over one at a time and write down each number across the top of your board (columns).

Shuffle the cards again, flip them over one at a time and write each number down the side of your board (rows).  If you need a visual of the card flipping, refer to my old post here.

Your prizes can be anything you want, candy, cash, scratch-off lottery tickets, gift cards, etc.  We generally award scratch-off tickets with a prize at the end of every quarter.

Example:

  • 1st quarter:  $1 scratch-off lottery ticket
  • Half-time:  $2 scratch-off lottery ticket
  • 3rd quarter:  $1 scratch-off lottery ticket
  • Final:  $5 scratch-off lottery ticket

To determine the winners, take the score at the end of each quarter and find where the numbers intersect.  Let's say the half-time score is Buccaneers 14, Chiefs 21 (I am expecting a high scoring game!).  You would find the "four" under Buccaneers and the "one" next to the Chiefs.  Trace across and down to find who signed the square at the intersection point.  Make sense?

This is a fun game!  We check to see who is "winning" after every score to see if it will hold out through the end of the quarter.  People get very engaged in this game.  Try it!

Game #2 - Bingo

We will also be playing this fun Commercial Bingo Game from FlamingoToes.com.  I only needed six cards, so I printed pages 2-4.  We generally only play one card each and just cross them off after the commercial airs.  (We also try to guess what the commercial is for...sometimes it is NOT obvious.)  After someone wins, we just keep going using the same card.  (No repeat winners, but they can continue to play.)  Pick a couple of prize ideas straight from the game like:
  • A can of Pringles
  • A bag of Doritos
  • M&M's
  • Cheetos
  • Chipotle Gift Card

Game #3 - Predictions

For this game, fill out your predictions before the Super Bowl actually starts.  Here is the link to the Football Predictions Game at fun-squared.com.  Scroll down and click the link that says "Here is the printable:  Super Bowl Party Prop Bets Game Sheets".  The winner of this one deserves a beverage!  Maybe give them a case of your favorite beer or one of the seltzers that we will see commercials for.

I am also going to add a couple of write-ins:
  • How many times will Gisele Bundchen be shown (Tom Brady's supermodel wife)?
  • Which coach's nostrils will you see first when his mask slips?  Andy Reid (Chiefs) or Bruce Arians (Bucs)

I am excited about this "Big Game"...it should be a good one if everyone stays healthy!  💖 Karen
