Leprechaun Loot Treasure Hunt

I found a bag of twelve large plastic coins at Dollar Tree...

For my St. Paddy's Day treasure hunt, I wanted to think of a six word clue to put on the back of the coins (I have two kids)...

I came up with "WHEN YOU SOLVE THIS SEE MOM".

(Note:  I didn't use punctuation because I wanted to make it harder to unscramble..."SEE MOM WHEN YOU SOLVE THIS" would also work!)

I printed the words on address labels and attached them to the back of the coins.

My kids get ready for school in two different bathrooms.  I'm going to hide the coins and/or leave them laying around and see if they will pick them up.  (I am trying to get them to "notice" when things are messy/out of place and see if they'll do anything about it.)

If they pick them up, and if they solve the puzzle, they will get a green box of candy for their efforts!

Happy St. Patrick's Week!

  1. Great idea, Karen! I like the added benefit of getting the kids to notice things that are out of place!

  2. oh my goodness! again... how creative are you? fabulous idea - so did it work mom? did they notice the things out of place or did you have to point them out?
i am totally inspired to do a treasure hunt with my kiddos- i'm thinking we may do some variation for a "spring fling" easter type celebration!

  3. For the most part, this did work! They both found 4 out of 6, but I wouldn't give them the prize until the message made sense...so they kept looking. :-)
